Default steering wheel is shaking left to right

I am having an issue with my steering wheel shaking left to right. It does it the most when i am low rpm's and accelerating. it has moved as much as ~3" left to right if i let go of the steering wheel during hard acceleration.

i just had an OBX LSD, DSS axles installed. Cannot tell if it happend right after the installation. I have D2 coilovers with 20k miles on them.

from my research, its normally the CV axles, worn struts. I have not had an alignment done or the tires balanced and i know i need one. But i wouldnt guess side to side shaking would be because of either of those. I know vibration is balancing and pulling to one side is alignment.

any help appreciated.

it's possible to feel a shake in the steering wheel from out of balance tires but i doubt that much. it sounds like it could be the axles. is everything suspension wise tight on your car?

most of the time a shaking comes from a wobbling effect like a bent rim.

In addition to what everyone else added, check your tie rod ends for play. If they're loose, that's your culprit.

does it get worse at high speeds? what about if you hit the brakes? If so it is your rotors.

also check your inner tie rods (under the rubber boot) mine actually had 1/4" of play on each side they were so worn out!!

check all of the posted above. Personal experience would be out of balance wheels, bent rim, and bent cv axel. But all posted above are possible culprits.

Oh, also check the tires for irregularities. I seen bad belts on tires do that too

check the upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends inner and outer, and see if the tires have strange wear like cupping from bad camber or whatever, maybe rotate the tires front to back, sorry I didn't really read your whole thread just my $.02 tho.

could be anything from tires, to rims to axels to ball joints. just check for mild bends in anything around your suspension and be sure to have your car alligned

have you hit a huge pot hole recently? if the answer is yes, which side and that axle may be bent. =]
